Sales Consultant

Do you like people and want to earn a living that's comfortable and fun? Do you like cars, exciting new technology, learning every day? Selling cars at Harper Motors is a hard job, make no mistake. However, it's also the best paying hard job you'll probably find. Our brands, Ford and Kia, make innovative and very cool automobiles that our customers really love. Kia just got the number one spot on the J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey for the second year in a row and Ford got fourth place. That's out of 32 automobile brands! 

Our dealership has been right here in Eureka for 105 years. Actually we're one of the oldest dealerships in the country. It could be that we're stubborn or just don't know when to quit or it could be that we're a team-oriented organization that values a win-win proposition. 

The job pays pretty good too. In 2016 the average salesperson made $58,180. They also got bonuses from Ford and Kia on top of that. The minimum you can make per month about $2,700, so the bills should get paid even if you have a bad month. However, please don't show up wanting to make $2,700 a month. That's not living up to your potential and it's not what we want either. We invest a lot in training and we will teach you how to succeed. 

You may have heard that automobile salespeople work long hours. It's true, we do. That's because we have to be open when customers are shopping for cars. Really though that's going to be true of a lot of retail minimum-wage jobs that aren't nearly as fun. Here at Harper Motors we try to allow you to lead a balance life which why we worked out our schedule so you can work an average of 36 hours per week. Be careful though, while that's the scheduled hours you'll most likely end up working more than that especially when you're getting started. The nice thing though is that with good time management you can probably make what you want and not work yourself silly.

Our benefit plan is pretty good too. We offer heath coverage (and yes, we did even before the Affordable Health Care Act), dental coverage, vision coverage, and a small life insurance policy. There's a 401k retirement plan with a company matching amount every year to help you in your retirement goals. We have paid vacation plus our store is closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

SUMMARY 

Sells/leases new- and used-vehicles at dealership gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Satisfies the transportation needs of vehicle purchasers.

Sells/leases and delivers a minimum of 10 units per month.

Approaches, greets, and offers assistance or direction to any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.

Assists customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses.

Explains fully product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.

Describes all optional equipment available for customer purchase.

Offers test drives to all prospects. Follows dealership procedure to obtain proper identification from customer prior to test drive.

Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up system.

Exhibits high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.

Knows and understands the federal, state, and local laws which govern retail automobile sales.

Establishes personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity, and devises a strategy to meet those goals.

Attends product and sales training courses as requested by sales manager.

Keeps abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers.

Knows and understands equity and values, and is able to explain depreciation to the customer.

Ensures that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer.

Turns 100 percent of closed deals to finance and insurance manager, along with properly completed paperwork (insurance information, trade title, etc.).

Writes complete sales orders and processes paperwork in accordance with established dealership policies.

Prepares sold vehicles for customer delivery prior to customer arrival.

Delivers vehicles to customers, ensuring that the customer understands the vehicle's operating features, warranty, and paperwork.

Introduces customers to service department personnel to emphasize to them the quality and efficiency of service repairs and maintenance available in the dealership's service department.

Schedules first service appointment.

Follows up on all post delivery items, tag/title work, "we-owes", and special requests to be sure that all customer expectations are met.

Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.

Maintains a prospect development system.

Reviews and analyzes actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.

Attends sales meetings.

Maintains professional appearance.
